SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ has been nominated in two categories at the Golden Globe Awards – Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’.

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, has been nominated in two categories at the Golden Globe Awards – Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’.

“RRR” is competing with All Quiet on the Western Front, Argentina, 1985, Close and Decision to Leave in the best picture non-English language category. In the Best Original Song category, RRR’s “Naatu Naatu” is up against “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, “Ciao Papa” from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick and “Lift Me” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

RRR’s relentless march started ever since it hit the theatres, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies in the country’s movie industry. More recently, its ascension could be credited to its extraordinary success in the West, thanks to the gripping plot and intriguing screenplay. Several notable Hollywood actors and moviemakers have heaped praises on the film, adding to the legendary rise of the movie.

Sharing the news on Twitter, the official handle of the Golden Globes wrote, ‘Congratulations to the nominees for Best Picture – Non-English Language–All Quiet on the Western Front, Argentina, 1985, Close, Decision to Leave and RRR.’ The official Twitter account of RRR retweeted the post.

‘RRR’ had recently been conferred with various awards. Composer MM Keeravani won Best Original Score at the Boston Society of Film Critics on Sunday night.

This isn’t the first win for the film in the US. ‘RRR’ won the Best International Film award at the Atlanta Film Critics Circle, and SS Rajamouli won the best director award at the New York Film Critics Circle.

‘RRR’, set in the 1920s pre-independent era, is based on the lives of two well-known revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. The film earned over ₹1100 crore worldwide during its theatrical run. Recently, it was re-released across several cities in the US as part of the Beyond Fest.

The Golden Globes Awards will be held in Los Angeles on January 10 (early morning of January 11 for India) and will be hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael.
