Mofussil buses to stop at Tambaram : Residents and commuters worried about traffic

All Mofussil buses coming from other places to Chennai in the afternoon session will reach the City via Tambaram.

The decision is said to have been made for the benefit of passengers.

A circular from the SETC Managing Director said,”All SETC buses should stop after the Tambaram MTC bus terminus for the passengers to get down. By operation of the buses through Tambaram, passengers travelling to Chrompet, Asarkana and Vadapalani will benefit and also have a chance of increasing the corporation’s revenue.”

However, buses that come after 5 pm to Chennai through Perungalathur will use the bypass via Maduravoyal to reach Koyambedu.

There has been mixed reactions from the residents for this movie.

While, a few have welcomed the movie, others have said that this will only lead to traffic congestion in the ares

“Tambaram bus terminus is already congested one and this move will only increase the plight of the commuters. Though the circular mentions that the buses should stop after the terminals, it is highly doubtful that the buses will follow this. Already the flyover intersections are crowded most of the time,” Said Shankar a commuter.

If the move is aimed to provide better transportation between Tambaram and Koyambedu, then it would be enough to increase the number of MTC buses running in this routes instead of diverting the mofussil buses, Krishnakumar said and added that this will only lead to waste of fuel of the mofussil buses.

“Not just that, passengers in the moffusil bus will have to travel for extra time to reach Koyambedu. This will not only lead to traffic in Tambaram but on the entire stretch till Koyambedy,” he added.
