HC moved to appoint IAS officer as Tambaram Corporation Commissioner

Madras High Court has asked the Tamilnadu government to respond in three weeks time about appointing an IAS officials as the Commissioner for Tambaram Corporation.

A petition was filed in this regard in the Court by Tambaram resident and advocate Rajamallan.

“The present Commissioner M Elangovan can function only as Deputy Commissioner and only an IAS officer can be appointed as the Commissioner of a Corporation. An IAS officer should be appointed as Tambaram Corporation Commission just like how Avadi Corporation.

Justice Abdul Kuthoos who heard the petition asked the State government to respond in three weeks time and postponed the next hearing to 4 January.

M Elangovan took charge as the first Commissioner of the newly formed Tambaram Corporation in November 2021.The Government order regarding the upgradation of Tambaram to a Corporation was released on 4 November 2021.The formation of Tambaram Corporation was announced on 24 November 2021 during the Assembly session.

The corporation was formed by annexing Pallavaram, Pammal, Sembakkam and Anakaputhur Municipalities.
