Madambakkam-Rajakilpakkam widening work to begin soon

Widening of the Madambakkam road from Rajakilpakkam junction is likely to kick start in the coming days.

The work is said to be carried out at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore.

Sources said that the road width will be increased from 7 metres to 14 metres including storm-water drains.

“Once completed this road will connect to the GST road making it easier to reach the places in South Chennai,” sources added.

It may be noted that work for the Eastern Bypass is also expected to commence shortly.

Once both these roads are completed, it will help to reduce traffic in the neighbourhood, opine residents.

Anirudh, a resident from Chelli Nagar said,”At present there is traffic congestion at all major junctions including Rajakilpakkam, Camp Road and Selaiyur during peak hours. The number of vehicles have increased in the neighbourhood and it is high time that the officials come out with a strategy to put a permanent end to the increasing traffic congestion.”
