Tamil Nadu govt waives traders’ tax dues

Tambaram: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday announced a ‘samadhan’ scheme of waiving long-pending commercial tax dues.

“The scheme will come into effect on October 16. It will be in force for four months until February 15,” said Stalin, making the announcement under rule 110 in the state assembly.

Traders and commercial establishments owed the government a total of 25,000 crore. There were 2.1 lakh cases involving 1.4 lakh traders and enterprises pending in courts.

Stalin said the arrears would be completely waived for traders whose dues were less than 50,000 during the assessment year.
