External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s security cover upgraded to Z category

Tambaram: Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s security cover has been upgraded to the ‘Z’ category, according to sources at the Union Home Ministry.

Earlier, Jaishankar was given a ‘Y’ category security cover. The security cover upgrade to the third-highest degree of security was allegedly made based on the threat report from the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

The Union Home Ministry holds regular meetings on threats to important people of the country. During its recent meeting, probable threats to the union minister were flagged.

According to the sources, a total of 36 security guards (including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel) will be deployed for Jaishankar’s ‘Z’ category security cover.

Additionally, 12 armed static guards will be stationed at the Union Minister’s residence, six Personal Security Officers (PSOs), 12 armed escort commandos in three shifts, three watchers in shifts, and three trend drivers will be present round-the-clock.
