Chitlapakkam resident and skater Karthika Jagadeeswaran, and Heeral Sadhu combined with 29-year-old Aarathy Kasturi Raj to clinch India’s first-ever medal in the speed skating discipline at the Asian Games.
The women’s trio finished with a timing of 4:34.861s to bag the third place on the podium behind gold medallists Taiwan (4:19.447) and silver winner South Korea (4:21.146).
The 15-year-old Karthika who is a resident of Duraiswamy Nagar in Chitlapakkam, hoped this medal would encourage others to take up the sport.
Tambaram MLA S R Raja met Karthika at her residence and congratulated her.
Raja was occupied was Tambaram Corportion Zone 3 Chairman Jayapradeep Chandran, 43rd Ward Councillor C Jagan along with resident and DMK functionaries.
